The Daughters of the GAR , NOT the Daughters of Union Veterans, began in Chicago in 1907. It was largely based in Illinois, Michigan & Wisconsin with a few other chapters through the midwest. While they asked for recognition by the GAR, this privilege was denied them. The GAR considered them a splinter broken off from the Daughters of Veterans. Several difference exit: they are the only female organization that claimed male titles for their officers ( Commander, dept. Commander and Commander-in-Chief. This also had a " whites only" membership policy . They disbanded in the late 1960s. More of their history is recorded in Grand Army Women book offered on eBay.

This badge is made offres of 10 kt gold and approximately 8 grams in weight was for the past local chapter or Fortress President. It is being sold as a historic artifact rather than scrap gold value. Because the organization was regional in basis, all of their badges are extremely rare to see or to be offered for sale.
