Bhumpa – Ritual Vase
The Bhumpa, or Ritual Vase, is an important ceremonial item used for holding holy water that has been blessed offres by the Guru. The holy water is believed to remove negativity and to chase away evil spirits, and it is sprinkled or poured to purify persons, places or objects. Bhumpas are widely used by Gurus in many types of ceremonies, from elaborate purification ritualsfor new houses, monuments and holy sites, to simple blessings for disciples meant to purify and protect them from harmfulforces. Bhumpas may also be used by practitioners to make water offerings; in such cases the water is regarded as pure nectar.
Bhumpa Set
During the performance of some Tantric rituals two matchingBhumpas are used. These are called the "chief" or "principal" vase, and the "action" or "working" vase. The principal vase is filled with holy water and remains upon the altar in themonastery or temple, while the action vase is used for theactual pouring of water for purification during the variousstages of the ritual.
About this Ritual item
The Bhumpa Set or Ritual Vase is made ofcopper alloy in oxidation finish with silver plated to beautify the set and has fine hand carvings decorated with turquoise and coral semiprecious stones which is beautifully hand carved with beautiful images. The spouts, bases, and covers have beautifully hand engravings of flowers and other Buddhist symbols. The hand engraving details are done very finely throughout. The vases are identical except for the sacred syllables and other symbols inscribed around their rims which together make a set. These finely hand engraved Bhumpas are crafted bythe master artisans of Patan, Nepal.
